LEAP Award Winners

The 2011-2012 LEAP (Leadership Excellence Award Program) Award winners were announced at the March Western Chapter MSPE meeting. The awards were given to their recipients after an amazing presentation on the Fukushima tragedy presented by Dr. Larry Drbal.

The award winners this year were:

Faculty: Dr. Greg King

Students: Sean Rivers and Taya Upkes

The student award winners were chosen on their leadership and ethical abilities.

The faculty award was chosen on demonstrated mentorship ability and encouragement to students to seek excellence.

Congratulations to the 2011-2012 LEAP award winners.

Second Annual E-Week Blood Drive a Success

This year's E-Week Blood drive sponsored by MSPE and Engineers Without Borders was a success!

On February 23, MSPE and EWB student chapters collaborated to host another blood drive. This years broke all of the previous year's records.

65 units of blood were collected
Increased amount of blood by 10%
43 first time donors
91 potential donors

Thank you everyone for helping save lives!

MSPE students excelling around campus

On November 11, 2011, the UMKC School of Computing and Engineering honored their scholarship donors with a luncheon. The luncheon allowed students to meet their donors and also thank them for all they have allowed them to do.

19 of 61 of these scholarship recipients are members of the UMKC Chapter of MSPE.

UMKC MSPE Vice President wins National Dam Safety Scholarship

The Association of State Dam Safety Officials selected Alex McCaskill, a Civil Engineering student, was selected at the sole recipient of the 2011-2012 Senior Undergraduate Scholarship. He will receive a $10,000 scholarship for the academic year and a stipend to attend the ASDSO's national conference.

The President Visits!

On September 29, 2011 NSPE President Christopher Stone visited Kansas City and stopped by to speak with the UMKC Chapter. After a welcoming breakfast at Jardine's, President Stone toured UMKC's campus and also the Linda Hall Library to view their rare book collection. After these tours, UMKC students were given the opportunity to have "Pizza with the President" and learn about PE licensure. That evening, a joint chapter dinner meeting occurred between KSPE and MSPE to hear final remarks from the president. A lot of interesting things were packed into one day and the President's visit was a success!
